As a PhD candidate for the COMPOSE project at Utrecht University, Chiara employs spatial agent-based modelling (ABM) to examine how different interventions, and especially their combinations, affect dietary and health outcomes in Amsterdam. A central focus is on identifying the conditions under which these measures can improve diet quality to address current risks of rising obesity and non-communicable disease levels. Her background is in Psychology, with a focus on Complex Systems Sciences and Computational Modelling.
Chiara’s research project is embedded in the Exposome-NL, with the goal to better understand and test the health impact of dietary interventions. In addition, Chiara is part of the Young Investigator Committee where she works on promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange within the consortium.
With my project, I hope to identify policy interventions that improve our diet quality in a sustainable and equitable way.
The environment we live in has a dominant impact on our health. It explains an estimated seventy percent of the chronic disease burden. Where we live, what we eat, how much we exercise, the air we breathe and whom we associate with; all of these environmental factors play a role. The combination of these factors over the life course is called the exposome. There is general (scientific) consensus that understanding more about the exposome will help explain the current burden of disease and that it provides entry points for prevention and ...
