In this project, we examine the ethical aspects of the Exposome-NL project. Drawing on the existing interdisciplinary work that helped shape the field, we conduct ethics research in parallel to developments in the field of exposomics. Current research focuses on global research coordination in exposomics, the ethical aspects of descriptive epidemiology, and the concept of bias in exposomics and ethics. Future research will focus on value creation and the conceptualization of health inequality.
The environment we live in has a dominant impact on our health. It explains an estimated seventy percent of the chronic disease burden. Where we live, what we eat, how much we exercise, the air we breathe and whom we associate with; all of these environmental factors play a role.
