This project aims to advance the detection and analysis of small molecules within the human exposome using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The primary goal is to enhance the identification, quantification, and sensitivity of Exposome Scans, making them more cost-effective and accessible for applications ranging from citizen science to environmental health assessments.
Furthermore, we will develop workflows to annotate previously unidentified small molecules, assess the environmental exposure impacts human metabolism and immunity, and advance methods for the precise quantification of detected molecules.
The research will refine data processing pipelines, integrate biomarkers for exposure and health effects, and utilize advanced sampling techniques to improve sensitivity. By exploring strategies to reduce costs without compromising data quality, this project will provide essential tools and methodologies to support the broader Exposome-NL program.
