This project integrates vital social factors into exposome research by building a framework to model individual-level social networks at scale.
To achieve this, we are synthesizing evidence linking social exposure to health outcomes and exploring the extent to which personal opportunity structures for meeting others, can be used as proxies for social networks.
By combining information from multiple social contexts, such as households, families, workplaces, schools, and neighbourhoods, the project aims to better understand how social environments shape health across the life course. Ultimately, we aim to create scalable methods that integrate diverse data sources, to better understand the social determinants of health within the exposome.
The environment we live in has a dominant impact on our health. It explains an estimated seventy percent of the chronic disease burden. Where we live, what we eat, how much we exercise, the air we breathe and whom we associate with; all of these environmental factors play a role.
