Laurens is promovendus bij het Metabolomics & Analytics Center, een onderzoeksinstituut dat deel uitmaakt van het Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research en de Universiteit Leiden. Zijn werk richt zich op de analyse van kleine moleculen in plasmamonsters.
Zijn rol binnen Exposome-NL bestaat uit het ontwikkelen, optimaliseren en toepassen van een analytische workflow voor het analyseren van het chemische exposoom in plasmamonsters. Dit zou ons inzicht kunnen vergroten in de manier waarop het exposoom onze gezondheid beïnvloedt.
